The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital is a pediatric level-one, academic trauma center with eight OR suites on level 3 and two minor ORs on level 2. We cover all pediatric surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Ortho, Neuro, ENT, GU-GYN, Ophthalmology, Plastics, Dental, General Surgery, and Pediatric hearts. The nursing team comprises 75% Registered Nurses and 25% Certified Surgical Technologists. RN’s are trained to scrub and circulate surgical procedures. Our OR is a busy, dynamic, nurse-driven, Magnet-designated department utilizing cutting-edge technology to serve the children of SC.
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Certified Surgical Tech prepares sterile supplies and equipment, performs room duties involving direct patient care, and functions autonomously as part of the OR team. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care considering patients' developmental levels and family needs.
Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and working in various environments. Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted, performing fine motor tasks, and working rotating shifts and overtime as needed. Must maintain visual and auditory acuity, deal effectively with stressful situations, and work in a latex-safe environment.
