Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs patient care related duties.
- Prepares andassistswith the preparation of the operating room according to the needs and age appropriateness of thepatient and the surgical procedure asevidencedby the following, but not limitedto:knowledge of surgical pathology asrelated to the planned surgical intervention; knowledge of allergies (awarenessofhigh-riskgroups for latex allergy);knowledge and preparation of special equipment i.e., implants, prostheses, instrumentation per procedure/preference,and medications.
- Applies knowledge of surgical procedure byanticipatingthe surgeon's needs, having supplies opened or available in a cost-effective manner asobservedby the circulating nurse/nurse manager.Seeks the circulating nurse'sassistanceand references the preference card when unable to decide about opening versus readily available.
- Attends andparticipatesinin-servicesand other continuing education opportunities tomaintainprofessional development.
- Maintainscorrectcount of sponges, needles, and instruments according to the established policy and procedure 100% ofthe time asobservedby the circulating nurse.
- Assistsin the care and labeling of specimens 100% of the time asobservedby the circulating nurse.
- Acknowledges the importance of patient safety byparticipatingin the proper handling of medications within the sterilefield.
- Prepares O.R. equipment and supplies while performing patientcare-relatedduties in anage-appropriatemanner.
- Demonstrateseffective time management skills.
- Cares for one or more of the following agegroups routinely: Neonates, Infants, Toddler,Preschool Age, School Age, Adolescent, and Adult.

Skills & Requirements
- RequiredEducational program completion for surgicaltechnologists which may include operating room/surgical training completed in the army, navy, airforce, marine corps, or coast guard of the United Statesor in the United States Public Health Service
- RequiredCST-SUR - Cert-Cert Surgical TECH by the National Board of Surgical Technology andSurgical Assisting andTSC-NCCT - Cert-TECH Surgery - Certified NCCT by the National Center for Competency Testing
- Required2years' experienceas a surgical technologist andexperience in two or more surgical specialties
