Job summary

UnityPoint Health seeks a Surgical Technologist I-Certified to support operating room preparation, sterile technique, and intraoperative assistance under the supervision of surgeons and perioperative staff.

You will work with the surgical team to anticipate needs, maintain sterile fields, and handle specimens and instruments while adhering to safety guidelines and infection control protocols.

Qualifications

• Graduate from accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Certification required within first year of employment.
• Prefer two years successful experience.
• Must possess good interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to take call.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room for the arrival of surgical patients, assembling equipment, supplies, and instruments per procedure.
• Assists the circulating nurse with patient care activities.
• Maintains the sterile field and performs counts of instruments, sponges, and sharps.
• Handles specimens, sutures, medications, and acting under supervision of surgeons.
• Demonstrates correct technique in handling instruments and materials.
• Supports infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
• Contributes to a clean, safe operating room environment.
• Balances teamwork with individual responsibilities and accepts feedback.
