Job summary

Hospital for Special Surgery in Mahwah is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the Magnet surgical team at our Northern NJ center. You will assist the surgeon and nurses, prepare sterile instruments, and help maintain a safe, efficient operating room.

The role requires a Surgical Technology program graduate with NBSTSA and Heartsaver certifications, and at least 1 year of OR experience. This is a full-time day shift based in New Jersey.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred.
• NBSTSA Certification required; American Heart Association Heartsaver certification required.
• One year of experience in a surgical setting is preferred.
• Preferred: central processing, sterilization, OR instrumentation, power equipment and orthopedic implants.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and nurses in surgery using sterile technique.
• Assemble, maintain and track surgical instruments and equipment.
• Inspect all packaged items to ensure integrity.
• Conduct pre-op, intra-op and post-op surgical counts per AORN standards.
• Maintain the integrity of the surgical field during procedures.
• Collaborate with team to promote patient safety and efficient turnover.

Performs surgical hand scrub and dons gowns and gloves in accordance with AORN and hospital policy for self, assistants, and surgeons.
