Position: Certified Surgical Technologist

Location: Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital - Charlottesville, VA

Shift: Full Time, Swing shift (11:00am - 7:00pm), No call required

Sign-on Bonus: Up to $15,000 for qualified candidates!

Overview

The Surgical Technologist ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment, assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The role involves maintaining patient safety and ensuring that the surgical environment is organized, clean, and sterile. The Surgical Technologist assists in applying dressings, securing surgical drapes, and transferring patients to recovery areas. Adheres to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety. Works closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth and effective procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Surgical Technologist Licensure in the state of practice
• Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Tech in Surgery TS-C by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Education

• Trade School Graduate – Surgical Technologist

Certifications and Licenses

• Licensed Surgical Technologist – Virginia
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA)

Experience

• Operating room experience (preferred)

Department Information

Performing an average of 7,000 cases annually, the Operating Room at SMJH has 8 OR suites and offers a variety of service lines including complex GYN, neurosurgery, vascular/thoracic, and orthopedic surgery. It is the second highest-performing OR in the Sentara system for orthopedic total joint procedures.
