Job Description

Responsible for assisting nursing personnel in providing quality care to patients in the operating room. Performs duties as a scrub person under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. Assists in obtaining supplies, equipment, opening operating rooms, and preparing instruments for sterilization. Helps transfer patients to the recovery room and cleans and restocks the operating room.

Principal Accountabilities

• Checks and gathers all instruments for each case in assigned room using surgeon’s preference card.
• Checks sterility tapes, dates, and wrapper integrity.
• Opens sterile supplies, maintains a sterile field, and corrects any breaks in technique immediately.
• Performs surgical scrub techniques and gowning and gloving procedures for self and team.
• Arranges instruments, basins, sutures, and supplies for accurate count post-surgery.
• Assists circulating nurses with counts of sponges, needles, and other devices.
• Uses all devices and instruments appropriately and performs standard draping techniques.
• Passes instruments safely and efficiently to the surgical team.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program with certification through NCCT or NBSTSA
• BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or related field
• 3-5 years of experience as a Scrub Tech in a hospital setting
