The Surgical Technologist II (operating room scrub technician) sets up the sterile field and gathers supplies for surgical cases based on knowledge of instruments and equipment. This role passes instruments to surgeons during surgery and performs count procedures as per policy.
Serves as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists, takes call for routine and high-acuity cases after orientation, and completes assigned responsibilities during the transitional duty period.
Functions under RN or practitioner supervision, providing direct patient care, emotional support, and problem solving in accordance with policies. Requires prior approval for schedule changes, legal issues, or deviations from standard care. May involve handling medications and supplies.
Surgical Technologists work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Schedules are established with the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator and may be adjusted as needed. They take independent call for cases after orientation. The role involves physical activity, exposure to hazards, and working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
