Trinity Health in collaboration with St. Joseph's Health invites you to join our surgical services team as a Certified Surgical Technologist.

The OR Suite includes 15 procedure rooms with 50–60 cases daily, supporting inpatient and outpatient major, minor and emergency procedures 24/7; this role assists the team across all perioperative phases. Schedule includes three 12-hour night shifts Friday–Sunday from 7:00pm–7:30am.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved surgical technology program or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited school for Licensed Practical Nursing and eligible for NY licensure, under supervision in procedural settings.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as primary scrub person handling instrumentation and supplies.
  • Anticipates surgeon and procedural needs across OR, Endoscopy and CVMP.
  • Provides technical and clinical support to perioperative team during procedures.

Employment Type: Full time Shift: Night Shift Description: If you are looking for dynamic learning opportunities, we invite you to join our surgical services team as a Certified Surgical Technologist. Our Operating Room Suite consists of 15 procedure rooms providing the capacity to perform 50-60 cases on a daily basis. We perform approximately 18,000 surgical procedures annually. Recently upgraded, we provide an aseptic environment and state of the art instrumentation. The operating room is available to schedule inpatient and outpatient for major, minor and emergency surgical procedures 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position completes assistive tasks for the surgical team during all phases of procedural care, in support of the Main or Ambulatory Operating Room, Endoscopy, and CVMP department(s).

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides technical and clinical support to the perioperative team during a variety of surgical procedures. Performs duties as the primary scrub person by handling instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Anticipates the surgeon and procedural needs.

Schedule commitment includes three 12 hour shifts Friday - Sunday from 7:00pm - 7:30am.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE
  • Graduate of an approved medically based and/or certificate program in Surgical Technology or,
  • Graduate of an accredited school for Licensed Practical Nursing and current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of New York working under the direction and supervision of providers and registered nurses in the procedural setting
  • Participates in orientation, annual competencies, continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge/skills related to specific areas of expertise as applicable, including but not limited to:
    • Spine Surgery Program
    • Shoulder Surgery Program
    • Hip & Knee Replacement Program
    • Stroke Wound Care
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Demonstrates manual dexterity and ability to handle equipment and instruments.
  • Ability to work effectively in task-oriented situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS

Clinical setting. Exposure Class I.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lifting maximum of 50 pounds. Will require ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat and reach.

CAREER PATH

Level II upon certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists. Level III upon successful completion of additional performance criteria.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Clinical Practice: Performs activities that support the surgeon and enhance the care delivered by the perioperative team. Performs sterilization and disinfection procedures according to policy and procedure. Supports the patient care activities of the perioperative care team. Adheres to safety standards within the service. Responsible for maintenance of supplies, instrumentation and equipment in a safe and cost effective manner. Utilizes Material Safety Data Sheets within service. Maintains patient confidentiality as it relates to patients, staff and visitors. Adheres to hospital confidentiality statement. Professional and Staff Development: Effectively educates the patient/family in specialty area. Participates in orienting and precepting other Surgical Technologists. Participates in staff and employee meetings. Participates in Performance Improvement: Utilizes plan, do, check and act methodology. Identifies areas needing improvement. Participates in Planning and Implementing Change Displays Commitment to the Hospital Mission: Demonstrates awareness of the role in customer service. Demonstrates cost effectiveness. Abides by the Established Personnel Policies Related to: Risk Management Infection Control Fire/Safety Hazardous Materials Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of the National Patient Safety Goals.

PAY & BENEFITS

$5,000 NEW-HIRE BONUS!!! Pay Range: $32.50 - $45.00 Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
