Job summary

Trinity Health in Syracuse, NY, seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist to support the perioperative team in the Operating Room Suite of 15 procedure rooms. The role involves instrument handling, supplies management, and assisting during all phases of procedures 24/7.

Graduate from Surgical Technology or LPN with NY licensure; must have BLS/CPR and be able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a focus on patient care excellence.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited LPN program with NY licensure or eligibility.
• Participates in orientation, annual competencies and ongoing education.

Responsibilities

Description: If you are looking for dynamic learning opportunities, we invite you to join our surgical services team as a Certified Surgical Technologist.

Our Operating Room Suite consists of 15 procedure rooms providing the capacity to perform 50-60 cases on a daily basis. We perform approximately 18,000 surgical procedures annually. Recently upgraded, we provide an aseptic environment and state of the art instrumentation. The operating room is available to schedule inpatient and outpatient for major, minor and emergency surgical procedures 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position completes assistive tasks for the surgical team during all phases of procedural care, in support of the Main or Ambulatory Operating Room, Endoscopy, and CVMP department(s).

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides technical and clinical support to the perioperative team during a variety of surgical procedures. Performs duties as the primary scrub person by handling instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Anticipates the surgeon and procedural needs.

Schedule commitment includes three 12 hour shifts Friday - Sunday from 7:00pm - 7:30am.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• Graduate of an approved medically based and/or certificate program in Surgical Technology or,

• Graduate of an accredited school for Licensed Practical Nursing and current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of New York working under the direction and supervision of providers and registered nurses in the procedural setting

• Participates in orientation, annual competencies, continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge/skills related to specific areas of expertise as applicable, including but not limited to:

  • Spine Surgery Program

  • Shoulder Surgery Program

  • Hip & Knee Replacement Program

  • Stroke

  • Wound Care

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Current BLS/CPR certification. Demonstrates manual dexterity and ability to handle equipment and instruments. Ability to work effectively in task-oriented situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Clinical setting. Exposure Class I.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lifting maximum of 50 pounds. Will require ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat and reach.

CAREER PATH:

  • Performs sterilization and disinfection procedures according to policy and procedure.

  • Responsible for maintenance of supplies, instrumentation and equipment in a safe and cost effective manner.

  • Utilizes Material Safety Data Sheets within service.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality as it relates to patients, staff and visitors.

  • Adheres to hospital confidentiality statement.

• Professional and Staff Development:

  • Effectively educates the patient/family in specialty area.

  • Participates in orienting and precepting other Surgical Technologists.

  • Participates in staff and employee meetings.

Pay Range: $32.50 - $45.00

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
