Job summary

Valley Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) for the Ambulatory Surgical Unit. The CST will assist surgeons, maintain sterile technique, and help ensure a safe operating room environment for invasive procedures.

The role requires graduation from an accredited surgical technology program, NBSTSA certification, and BLS (AHA) certification. Virginia license may be required if applicable; training responsibilities may be included.

Qualifications

• BLS Certification (AHA Healthcare Provider) required.
• If working in Virginia, VA State license required prior to start of employment.

Responsibilities

Job Description

The CST is an allied health professional who works under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. They possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. A CST I is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned. A CST I is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, any unit specific competencies that are identified by the Supervisor/ Manager as it relates to the patient population of their unit, as well as completion of the Professional Practice Ladder requirements. Portfolio is current and submitted to Supervisor/ Manager annually by March 1st. Is responsible for precepting and/or training new employees or students as appropriate and as assigned.

Education

Graduate of an accredited surgical technology course required.

Certification & Licensures

If working in Virginia, VA State license required prior to the start of employment. NBSTSA Certification required. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.

Qualifications

Demonstrates expertise in the delivery of care and possesses the skills necessary to perform complex tasks. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed in order to provide care for the age group of patients served. Must have reliable means of phone communication with hospital.
