Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Surgical Technician for the operating room in Marlborough, MA. The ideal candidate will handle instruments and supplies, maintain the sterile field, and support the surgeon during procedures.

Required are BLS certification, Surgical Technologist certification, and program graduation. A 3-year hospital-based experience is preferred, with a sign-on bonus available and on-call, day shifts.

Responsibilities

• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures such as scrubs, gowns and gloves.

• Performs counts with circulator prior to operation and before incision is closed.

Purpose & Primary Functions

The Surgical Tech handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care a during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications/solutions needed for surgery.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation ad n before incision is closed.

Position Qualifications

• Licensure/Certification/ Registration: BLS Certification
• Surgical Technologist certification required
• Education: Graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist program
• Other Qualifications: Well organized and possess high degree of manual dexterity
• 3 years experience in a hospital-based surgical service preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service and communication skills required OR equivalent combination of the above
