Watson Clinic is seeking a certified Surgical Technologist to perform crucial duties in the operating room. The ideal candidate will be responsible for patient preparation, maintaining sterile environments, and assisting surgical teams. This role requires effective communication, knowledge of surgical protocols, and the ability to perform under pressure.
Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Formal training as an O.R. Technician. Required certified as a surgical technologist.
Preferred Education and Experience: CGRN preferred. Must obtain ACLS certification within 3 months of employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform patient care activities; individualize perioperative care and assist with positioning to meet patient and surgeon needs. Assist with proper positioning by protecting nerve and bony areas, maintaining body alignment for vascular flow and respiratory ventilation, and ensuring patient privacy. Prepare the surgical suite physically, including cleaning, stocking, and replacing supplies. Open sterile supplies onto the sterile field using aseptic techniques. Maintain the integrity of the sterile field and initiate corrective actions as needed. Follow Surgery Center protocols and manufacturer guidelines for the use, processing, and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Check equipment for safe operation and cleanliness before use. Remove defective instruments and equipment, documenting issues. Set up sterile tables with necessary instruments, sutures, blades, electrosurgical units, suction, prostheses, and solutions according to standards. Gown and glove according to policy. Count sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulator. Gown and glove OR team members and drape the field. Identify specimens and follow surgeon instructions. Prepare the surgical incision and apply post-op dressings as per surgeon preference. Assist with patient transport. Keep surgeon’s preference cards current by reporting needed changes and verifying updates at case end. Prepare instruments for sterilization and decontamination. Participate as a team member to complete room turnover.
Perform OR duties: Apply knowledge of solutions and medications used during surgery in accordance with standards. Maintain supplies for procedures. Hand instruments and supplies to the surgeon, hold retractors, cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed. Use dexterity and efficient motion in passing instruments. Keep the sterile field neat and orderly. Discuss surgical procedures with the team using appropriate terminology. Function effectively in stress and crisis situations. Apply cost containment principles in supply use.
