Description

Position: Certified Surgical Technologist

Reports To: Registered Nurse(s) On Duty and Surgical Services Manager

Schedule: Variable shifts, 16-24hrs/week, Occasional Weekend coverage

Position Location/Department: Surgical Services

Job Summary: Sheridan Community Hospital is looking to fill an immediate need for a Certified Surgical Technologist. We are looking for an experienced professional who can work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment and provide our patients with the care and support they need prior to and during surgery. The Surgical Technologist will work directly with the surgeon and the circulating registered nurse. The position’s duties are highly variable, so the successful candidate must be willing to change direction at a moment’s notice and keep pace with other OR professionals on staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organizational skills with an attention to detail
  • Team builder, willing to work shoulder to shoulder with nursing services staff
  • Contribute to an environment of trust and mutual respect through interaction with the surgical team
  • Monitors and anticipates equipment needs, quickly notifies RN of discrepancies
  • Utilize critical thinking skills; maintains high expectations for self and other team members
  • Conduct inventory of supplies and restock shelves/cabinets; coordinates resupply with central supply
  • Assists in assuring hospital is in compliance with current standards established by HFAP, CMS and other regulatory agencies
  • Check supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures, per surgeon’s preference cards
  • Scrubs, gowns and gloves other surgical team members as required
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications/solutions needed
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed
  • Assists in draping sterile field
  • Passes instruments, needed supplies to surgeon during procedure
  • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure
  • Prepares sterile dressings
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization
  • Assists in autoclaving and wrapping instruments after sterilization
  • Assists other members of the surgical team with terminal cleaning of OR suite between cases and at end of day
  • Assists in prepping room for the next surgical case
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school with a degree/certification as a certified surgical Technologist within 1 year
  • Obtain and maintain Current Michigan license as a Certified Surgical Technologist in good standing
  • Preferred a minimum of 1-year experience working in a Surgical Department or outpatient surgery center
  • Organizational skills with an attention to detail
  • Obtain and maintain BLS certification within 6 months of hire date
  • Check hospital email at least once per workday since primary source of communication
  • Active involvement as a leader/participant in one hospital wide committee or council
