Job description

Job Summary

Assists the surgical team in the preparation of surgical procedures in the operating room. Prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field, retracting and passing instruments, supplies and medications to surgeons during cases. Performs a variety of technical skills, including maintaining supplies.

Qualifications

Recent open‑heart or cardiothoracic experience required.

Job Requirements

• High School Education/GED or equivalent (Required)
• Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience (Preferred)
• Scrub technician experience (Preferred)
• Operating room experience and/or training course (Preferred)

Licenses / Certifications

• Certified Surgery Technician (CST) or Tech in Surgery TS‑C (NCCT) certification (Required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) or Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (Required)
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (Preferred)
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery (NCCT‑ST) certification (Required)

Essential Functions

• Prepares supplies and equipment prior to each surgical case and assembles appropriate supplies/equipment.
• Reviews equipment inventory for specialty as assigned and sets up operative instrumentation and sterile field.
• Collects data on surgical cases according to unit’s Performance Standards of Care, cleans equipment and facilities as needed, and performs housekeeping duties.
• Transports patients as required, provides clerical duties, and completes instrument, sponge, needle, and blade counts with RN.
• Maintains a neat and orderly sterile field, labels solutions, and performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
