The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room, assisting surgeons and healthcare professionals in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures. This role requires technical expertise, sterile technique proficiency, and a commitment to patient safety to support surgical efficiency and success.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms, ensuring sterile environments and necessary equipment availability.
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating surgical needs.
- Maintain strict sterile technique, following protocols for infection control and patient safety.
- Set up, test, and ensure the functionality of surgical equipment and instruments.
- Monitor and manage surgical supplies, replenishing materials as needed.
- Handle specimen collection and ensure proper transport for laboratory analysis.
- Support postoperative cleaning and sterilization of equipment and operating rooms.
- Collaborate with nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgeons to ensure smooth procedures.
- Stay informed on new surgical techniques and advancements in technology.
Required Qualifications- Associate degree in Surgical Technology or completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical procedures, and medical instruments.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and excellent teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification (preferred).
- Experience assisting in various surgical specialties.
