Job summary

UT Health Athens is seeking a PRN Certified Surgical Tech (CST) to join our operating room team in Athens, Texas. The role emphasizes maintaining sterile technique and assisting the surgical team across routine and complex procedures.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program, and BLS certification within 14 days of hire. Certification from NBSTSA or NCT within 90 days is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to direct patient care.
• Certification with NBSTSA or NCT or another Texas-approved surgical technologist certification within 90 days of graduation.

Responsibilities

• Act as primary scrub technologist for routine and complex procedures.
• Maintain sterile field and apply aseptic technique to ensure a safe, aseptic environment.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care.

Get to Know Your Team:

• UT Health Athens is a 127-bed facility, including a 24-hour ED, designated as a Level IV trauma center and Level III stroke center; advanced diagnostic technology; 10-bed ICU; maternity unit radiation therapy center; and a stand-alone ED in Gun Barrel City.

Responsibilities

Functions as primary scrub technologist for a variety of routine and complex procedures, while consistently demonstrating clinical skills with confidence and competence. Individual is responsible for ensuring, along with other surgical team members, that they maintain the sterile field, applying aseptic technique principles to ensure a safe, aseptic, and cost-effective environment to all patients that clearly spells quality and excellence.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
• Current certification with one of the following:
• The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
• The National Center for Competency Testing or another surgical technologist certification program approved by the Texas Department of State Health Service within 90 days of graduation from accredited surgical technology program.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• Operating Room experience.
