Job summary

Surgery Partners, Inc. is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist for a full‑time position.

The role requires 5 days a week with typical 0630–1500 shifts, in an orthopedics/spine OR setting with cases from robotic joints to TLIFs and ACDFs. Salary ranges from $28.00 to $39.25 per hour, depending on skill and experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
  • 1 year of surgical tech experience.
  • BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Sets up operating room with instruments, sterile drapes, and solutions prior to operations.
  • Tends to patient during pre-operation procedures per hospital protocols.
  • Performs pre-operation skin prep and equipment checks.
  • Assembles sterile and non-sterile equipment and ensures proper function.
  • Preps patients for surgery including cleansing and incisions area preparation.
  • Transports and positions patients on the operating table and applies sterile drapes.
  • Assists surgeons and assistants by passing instruments and supplies.
  • Holds retractors, assists with sutures, and counts sponges, needles, and supplies.
  • Operates sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Transfers patients to recovery and restocks the OR after operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

This position will be for five days a week and will be 8‑hour shifts. The position is for a certified surgical technician that has previous experience in orthopedics and spine orthopedics. We have an array of cases varying from total robotic joints to TLIFs, XLIFs and ACDFs.

General Summary Of Duties

Surgical technologists, also called scrubs and operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. They are members of operating room teams that most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses.

Education / Experience / Requirements
  • A graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
  • 1 year of surgical tech experience.
  • BLS certification.
Essential Functions
  • Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Before an operation, prepares the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
  • Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to the patient during pre‑operation procedures.
  • Performs pre‑operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment.
  • Assembles both sterile and non‑sterile equipment, as well as adjusts and checks it to ensure it is working properly.
  • Gets patients ready for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites.
  • Transports patients to the operating room, helps position them on the operating table, and covers them with sterile surgical drapes.
  • Observes patients’ vital signs, checks charts, and assists the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
  • Passes instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.
  • Holds retractors, cuts sutures, and helps count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. Helps prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and helps apply dressings.
  • Operates sterilizers, lights, or suction machines, and helps operate diagnostic equipment.
  • After an operation, helps transfer patients to the recovery room and cleans and restocks the operating room.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical / Mental Demands
  • Ability to be on your feet for long periods and lift or turn disabled patients.
  • Requires sitting and standing in an environment associated with a normal office environment.
  • Ability to concentrate for periods of up to four hours.
  • Ability to communicate verbally both in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard and to view a computer monitor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the center.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his/her age‑specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the center’s policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills in the nursing process.
  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co‑workers, and other health team members.
