Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist in various patient care activities and perform scrub duties in the operating room. Candidates must possess strong communication skills, be technically competent, and preferably be bilingual in English and Spanish.

An accredited Surgical Technician program completion and current certification are required. Preference will be given to candidates with one year of experience.

Under direct training of a Registered Nurse (RN), performs scrub activities and assists with a variety of patient care activities for patients of varying ages in the operating room setting.

Required Skills

• Possesses effective oral communication skills.
• Technically competent in tasks within the scope of practice of a Surgical Technician.
• Skill and ability to concentrate and monitor instrument, sharps, and sponge counts.
• Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Required Experience

One year experience as a surgical technician preferred.

License/Registration/Certification

• Current certification as a Surgical Technician required.
• Current CPR Training Program required.

Education and Training
