Job Summary
As our Surgical Tech, you will help prepare the operating room and surgical team for a variety of surgical procedures. Every day you will set up surgical equipment and instruments, assist the surgical team, and ensure a sterile environment, collaborating within the OR team and contributing directly to the patient’s healing process.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist in orienting new personnel and orient new associates as needed, based on experience level.
- Plan for and prepare the necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment required for surgical procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge and technical skill in the care and use of instruments, supplies, and equipment used during a surgical procedure.
- Perform skin preparation as directed.
- Assist in positioning and draping the patient for the appropriate procedure.
- Properly identify and handle medication passed onto the sterile field under the direction of the RN.
- Complete accurate instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with a Registered Nurse.
- Perform scrub duties such as handling instruments, holding retractors, cutting sutures, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Assist in transporting blood products and specimens to and from the Laboratory.
- Ensure proper care of specimens from surgical procedures.
- Perform all work in accordance with accepted standards of sanitation, safety, and proper handling techniques, including sterilization and high‑level disinfection procedures.
- Assist the Registered Nurse as directed.
Education
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Licensure and Certification
- Current Surgical Tech certification required.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Experience and Pre‑Requisites
- Previous Operating Room experience preferred.
Pay Range
$23.11 - $34.38 per hour
