Job summary

Prime Healthcare's Dallas Medical Center seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist III (CST III) to support highly complex surgeries as an advanced team member, lead case preparation, and mentor other technologists.

This per diem (PD/PRN) position offers variable shifts and opportunities to promote patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance while collaborating with surgeons and OR staff.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CST training program and CST certification on hire.
• Experience scrubbing minor and major procedures across General, Urology, Eye, Gynecology, Hand, and Orthopedics.
• Current BLS (AHA) and CST certification maintained after hire.
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required at hire and CST certificate maintained for employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead sterile preparation and serve as primary scrub for complex cases.
• Coordinate operating room readiness with advanced instrumentation and implants.
• Provide intraoperative support by passing instruments and troubleshooting equipment.
• Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, instruments, and implants; document implants.
• Mentor and onboard new technologists, supporting competency development.

Overview

We are seeking a Certified Surgical TechnologistIII(CSTIII), sometimes referred to as a SurgicalTechIII, OR TechIII or Scrub Tech III. The Certified Surgical Technologist III (CST III) serves as an advanced surgical team member responsible for supporting highly complex surgical procedures, ensuring optimal operating room efficiency, and serving as a clinical resource for surgical staff. The CST III leads advanced case preparation, assists surgeons by maintaining a sterile field and anticipating procedural needs, mentors surgical technologists, and promotes best practices in patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.

The position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed.

Responsibilities

The Certified Scrub Tech III (CST III) leads sterile preparation and serves as the primary scrub for complex surgical cases, using advanced skills to support surgeons and drive safe, efficient OR performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

• Advanced Clinical Leadership – Serve as a lead surgical technologist for complex and specialty procedures, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to surgical staff while modeling best practices in sterile technique and patient safety
• Complex Case Preparation – Coordinate and prepare operating rooms for highly specialized procedures, ensuring availability of advanced instrumentation, implants, and equipment while anticipating surgeon preferences and procedural needs
• Intraoperative Expertise – Provide advanced intraoperative support by passing instruments, maintaining sterile technique, anticipating next steps, and troubleshooting equipment or supply issues to support optimal surgical outcomes
• Instrument and Implant Management – Ensure accurate counts of sponges, needles, instruments, and implants while supporting implant documentation, specimen handling, and case tracking in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Education and Mentorship – Support onboarding and training of new surgical technologists, assist with competency development, and serve as a resource for clinical questions, specialty techniques, and equipment use

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal‑breakers. You must have:

• Graduate of a Certified Surgical Tech (CST) training program
• Certified Surgical Tech (CST) Certification upon hire required and maintained for employment.
• Experience and mastery in scrubbing minor and major procedures in general surgical specialties (General, Urology, Eye (cataracts), Gynecology, and Hand Specialty), in addition to demonstrating proficiency and skill in basic spine procedures (Laminectomies), Sports Medicine, Orthopedic Total Joints, complicated spinal fusion surgery (including 360), and complicated orthopedics: Sports Medicine and Total Joints, and Joint Revisions.
• Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current CST certificate upon hire.
