Job summary

OhioHealth in Grove City, OH seeks a Certified First Assistant (CFA) for part-time 24 hours/week, Monday through Friday with a rotating day off and call-stay. The CFA provides assistance to surgeons, supports exposure and hemostasis, and ensures a safe operative field.

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree in Surgical Technology or an accredited program, CSTF or SA-C, BLS, and 2 years as a Surg Tech in OR.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Surgical Technology or an accredited program as required.
• Two years of experience as a Surgical Tech in an inpatient/OP main OR.
• CSTF or SA-C certification required.
• Preceptor duties may be involved.
• BLS certification is required.
• Demonstrates basic critical thinking and independence.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and communicates with staff.
• Competent in 4–6 service lines, including advanced orthopedics or neurosurgery.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon during operative procedures with exposure and hemostasis.
• Provide wound exposure and maintain a dry operative field.
• Assist with suction and sponges to ensure clear visibility.
• Provide hemostasis using clamps, cautery, and ligation.
• Complete closure of fascia, subcutaneous tissue and skin under supervision.
• Work across 4–6 service lines, including advanced orthopedics or neurosurgery.
• Uphold safety, quality, and efficiency in duties as an HRO.

Job Description Summary:

This position is part-time, working 24 hours per week, Monday through Friday with a rotating day off and call-stay.

SIGN-ON BONUS: $7500

External applicants may be eligible for a sign-on bonus with a one-year work commitment. This includes previously employed applicants who have been gone from the organization longer than 90 days.

The Certified First Assistant in Surgery (CFA) provides assistance to the surgeon or group of surgeons during an operative procedure as a first or second assistant providing aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.

Responsibilities And Duties:

• Provides assistance to the surgeon providing exposure, hemostasis, and other technical skills.
• Provides wound exposure through proper use of retractors so surgeon may clearly view operative site.
• Through use of suction and sponges, provides a dry field of operation to permit optimum vision of tissue, viscera, vessels, etc.
• Provides hemostasis by use of clamps, cautery, ligation
• Completes closure of fascia, subcutaneous tissue and skin under the direction of the surgeon
• Competent in 4-6 service lines, one of which must be advanced orthopedics, soft tissue robotics, complex cardiovascular, or neurosurgery (cranial).
• Assumes other tasks of a similar nature or level of responsibility when assigned by supervising physician.
• As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.

• Will demonstrate the ability to anticipate surgeon needs and communicates these with staff

• Competent in 4-6 service lines, one of which must be advanced orthopedics, soft tissue robotics,complex CV or neurosurgery (cranial).
