Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota is seeking a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) to support surgeons in a multi-specialty perioperative setting. You will assist in procedures, maintain aseptic technique, and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.

The role requires graduation from a Surgical Assistant program, current CSA or CSFA certification, and OR experience; on-site, full-time schedule with on-call rotations, competitive hourly pay, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Surgical Assistant program or equivalent surgical assistant training.
• Relevant operating room experience or training within the past 3 years is preferred.
• Current certification as Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or CSFA with NBSTSA/ NCCSA.

Responsibilities

• First assists the surgeon/physician in the performance of surgical procedures.
• Demonstrates surgical anatomy knowledge and develops suturing and instrument handling skills.
• Maintains aseptic technique and adheres to perioperative policies and guidelines.
• Understands surgical procedures and anticipates the surgeon's needs.
• Works in a multi-specialty perioperative setting.

Responsibilities

The Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA):

• first assists the surgeon/physician in the performance of surgical procedures.
• has an understanding of human surgical anatomy; has developed surgical skills such as suturing, the proper use of surgical instrumentation, and proper positioning of surgical patients.
• possesses a working knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique, and perioperative policies and procedural guidelines.
• must have knowledge of surgical procedures and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon.

Qualifications

Graduate of a Surgical Assistant program or equivalent surgical assistant training.

Relevant operating room experience or training within the past 3 years is preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Current certification as Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) with the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) with National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
