Overview

Assists the SPD Management team with the daily workflow. Assists with instrument training and equipment repairs. Trains new staff on departmental procedures. Acts as an SPD role model for customer service, professional conduct, and leadership.

Responsibilities
  1. Assists in managing the workflow of SPD daily, contributing to departmental productivity and efficiency. Works closely with Operating Room staff to ensure emergency add-on cases are completed promptly. Provides appropriate information to fulfill customer requests.
  2. Maintains knowledge of sterilization processes and procedures specific to the hospital. Assists in training staff on specialty equipment. Maintains SPD processing equipment and records training activities.
  3. Performs activities of the Sterile Processing Aide, including decontamination, packaging, processing, dispensing, inventory management, and storage. Familiar with various specialty instruments used across hospital departments.
  4. Assists in managing orthopedic instruments from outside vendors, ensuring proper decontamination and sterilization. Coordinates with staff to ensure instrument availability for scheduled surgeries.
  5. Monitors patient care medical equipment for availability, arranges repairs with Biomedical, and oversees emergency carts.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency in medical terminology relevant to SPD.

Experience: Experience preferred.

Licensure: Certification in Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD or IAHCSMM).

Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, timely feedback, and follow-up with staff and vendors.

Physical Demands: Standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and other physical activities as described, with appropriate safety precautions.
