Job description

Certified Respiratory Therapist - CMFHS Main

Responsible for the pulmonary care of critical, non-critical, and chronically ill adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the direction of a physician with minimal supervision. Performs various technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures in all areas of the hospital. Conducts patient assessments and develops respiratory care plans.

Responsibilities:

  1. Meet the expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  2. Include, but are not limited to:
  3. Emergency (Code Blue and White) response;
  4. Airway management including nasotracheal & endotracheal suctioning;
  5. Delivery of aerosolized drugs;
  6. Ventilator management (setup and operation);
  7. Oral hygiene;
  8. Airway retaining device placement and maintenance;
  9. Airway support device management including BiPAP and CPAP devices;
  10. Oxygen delivery devices and therapeutic monitoring;
  11. Chest film analysis;
  12. Blood gas collection and analysis;
  13. EKG analysis;
  14. Accurate and complete documentation;
  15. Cleaning and stocking of equipment and supplies as necessary;
  16. Participation in CAP and JC surveys.

RRTs may function as Shift Leader or serve as Team Leader.

Advanced practice skills may include:

  1. Therapeutic gas management and monitoring, including INO and HeO2;
  2. Pulmonary Function Testing;
  3. Bronchoscopy assistance;
  4. Hemodynamic Monitoring;
  5. Waveform analysis;
  6. Nocturnal SpO2 evaluation (Desaturation Studies);

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills: See licensure and/or certification requirements.

Experience: 2 - 3 years of experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • RCP License in the state of employment required;
  • BLS required;
  • CRT through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
