Major Responsibilities
- Provides all elements of pre-anesthesia, anesthesia, and post-anesthesia services including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care consistent with anesthesia plan and in collaboration with the surgical team.
- Manages conditions based on clinical indication, evidence-based care, cost-effectiveness, and assessment of risks/benefits and alternatives.
- Participates in preoperative evaluation including assessment, exam, obtaining informed consent, and reviewing preoperative studies.
- Ensures readiness of equipment, supplies, and medications for anesthesia procedures.
- Delivers anesthesia care including induction, maintenance, support of life functions, and emergence.
- Selects and administers anesthetics, adjuvants, fluids, and temperature regulation devices, assessing response and intervening as needed.
- Performs post-anesthesia duties, including patient monitoring, pain management, and assessing for complications.
- Manages emergency situations with advanced airway management, emergency drugs, and BLS/ACLS techniques.
- Maintains accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and ensures compliant billing.
Other Responsibilities
- Participates in quality, safety, and peer review activities and organizational meetings.
- Contributes to education and onboarding of new staff and students.
- Maintains and develops clinical skills and professional knowledge.
- Provides age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development over the lifespan.
License/Certification Requirements
- Active RN and APRN licenses in state(s) of practice.
- Active national CRNA certification (NBCRNA).
- Active DEA registration prior to hire.
- For Illinois: Active Illinois Controlled Substance License prior to hire.
- ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications as required, within 6 months of hire.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High clinical proficiency and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and evolving technology.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, carry, push/pull, and perform patient positioning.
- Must have functional vision and hearing.
- Exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids.
