Description

The Certified Recovery Coach is responsible for promoting a recovery based approach to care with an emphasis on respect, self-direction, and empowerment by providing peer support, personal assistance, education on community resources, and other supportive services, for individuals with a substance use disorder. They will work closely with individuals to promote stability and wellness in recovery, and hope. The Certified Recovery Coach will identify publicly as a person in recovery who is now using that experience to provide individual and group support to individuals receiving services through Victory Programs at our various locations.

Location: The Jamaica Plain Recovery Center is a ‘recovery-oriented sanctuary anchored in the heart of the community,’ delivering peer-to-peer recovery support services, and providing a safe, supportive, healing space for individuals in recovery using a volunteer/member base, guided by peer staff, to deliver services and provide multiple pathways to recovery.

Essential Functions

  • Provide members with strength-based one-on-one peer support, wellness planning, recovery capital and pathway exploration.
  • Provide support in overcoming barriers and navigating the recovery system, as well as the greater recovery community.
  • Run a variety of recovery groups in Victory Programs’ various programs.
  • Assist individuals in identifying and/or overcoming barriers to recovery.
  • Assist individuals in identifying, developing, and achieving their own personal goals.
  • Connect individuals to recovery support systems while encouraging hope, optimism, and health.
  • Assist in building skills that promote the person’s recovery and self-sufficiency.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to care, connection and other services that recoverees may be interested in.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation/record keeping in electronic health records.
  • Share personal recovery experiences appropriately, if/when applicable, and demonstrate effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
  • Meet with individuals and families post-overdose (if the recoveree agrees).
  • Enforce all policies and procedures of Victory Programs, Inc.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff to provide individualized services to all clients.
  • Attend supervision with the Recovery Coach Supervisor, or their designee.
  • Act in accordance with Victory Programs Standards of Excellence & Philosophy Care, including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries, and client confidentiality, and working from a strength-based perspective.
  • Provide milieu coverage as needed at the Peer Recovery Center, including: maintaining and assessing the integrity of the program’s therapeutic milieu; empowering clients to act in accordance with the guidelines of the program; assisting clients in self-administration of medications; conducting controlled substance counts; answering phones and the front door.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Represent the program in the community and to designated funders, as requested by supervisor.
  • Participate and support the agency in program holiday events, State House rallies, fundraising and advocacy events, HIV/AIDS rally and walk, and any additional functions.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by your supervisor or their designee.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate is someone who has accepted their substance use history, has learned to live with and manage the daily challenges of recovery, and has attained a level of personal growth and healing that gives them the understanding, insight and motivation to help others.

  • High school or equivalent (required)
  • Must demonstrate an understanding and belief in the recovery process and Recovery Oriented Systems of Care model.
  • At least 2 years sustained and uninterrupted recovery at the time of hire per Massachusetts requirements.
  • Completion of Recovery Coach Academy and Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaching training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC) certification obtained and all necessary CARC requirements maintained every 2 years once thereafter.
  • Knowledge of multiple pathways to recovery support systems, including but not limited to 12-step support groups, faith-based groups, harm reduction services, SMART Recovery, Life Ring; and providing direct service.
  • Ability to act with integrity and compassion and foster a culture of mission, trust, respect and accountability for outcomes.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural awareness and competency, including the ability to understand, respond and work effectively and with sensitivity with staff and members from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age and have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and safe driving points of 00, 98, 99, 01, 02, or 03. Strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Position Type: Full-time and Part-time. Hours flexible. On-site.

Rate: $26.00/hourly

Victory Programs offers a generous paid time off package to all employees including vacation, sick, and personal time as well as holidays. Upon hire, all staff are entitled to up to: 4 personal days, 160 sick hours, 10 holidays and 3 1/2 weeks of vacation. These figures adjust based on full time or part time status and allocated vacation time increases with length of employment.
