Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island in New Hyde Park, NY, invites applications for a Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist. You will oversee delivery of prescribed pulmonary function testing through hands-on performance and coordination of lab services.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy, NBRC credentials with NYS licensure (or CPFT with NYS licensure), and demonstrates strong communication, patient assessment, and lab-operational skills.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
• NBRC credential (RRT/CRT/CPFT) with NYS license or CPFT with NYS license; experience in PFT lab preferred.
• Basic computer skills and Windows-based PFT software.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic pulmonary function testing.
• Calibrates and operates laboratory equipment.
• Assesses patients and manages clinical aerosol delivery and emergencies related to PFT.
• Maintains pulmonary function lab operations.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist - New Hyde Park.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring and coordinating delivery of prescribed pulmonary function testing services through direct performance of laboratory studies.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrates knowledge of accepted standards, policies, procedures, staff responsibilities and instrumentation related to provision of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the calibration and operation of laboratory equipment and performance of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.
• Demonstrates proficiency in patient assessment, clinical aerosol delivery and emergency management procedures related to performance of diagnostic pulmonary function testing.
• Demonstrates proficiency in pulmonary function laboratory operations.
• Provides appropriate instruction/education to laboratory staff, patients, family members, nurses, physicians, affiliated students, and other members of the Medical Center community.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC; RRT credential) and New York State Respiratory Therapist license OR Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC; CRT credential) and New York State Respiratory Therapy Technician license OR Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care Certification for Pulmonary Function Technology (CPFT). Experience in Pulmonary Function Lab highly desired. Computer competency, including basic understanding of, and ability to work with, Microsoft Windows based pulmonary function software programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Required Licenses

Cert Pulmon Func Tech (CPFT), Respiratory Therapy Tech-NYS, Resp Thrpst License-NYS, Natl Respiratory Therapy Reg

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in respiratory care, cardiorespiratory sciences or related area as recognized by the New York State Board for Respiratory Therapy. Two years full time acute care hospital PFT laboratory experience
