Job summary

Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, IL is seeking a Certified Phlebotomy Technician for day shift duties in the hospital laboratory. You will perform venipuncture and skin puncture on patients of all ages under supervision, and handle routine clerical tasks to keep the workflow running smoothly.

Responsibilities include specimen processing across microbiology, chemistry, hematology, and blood bank, plus specimen referral and supply stocking.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program or equivalent on-the-job training with documented competency required.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician required.
• BLS certification within forty-five days of hire and maintained current, according to hospital requirement.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages.
• Performs computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
• Demonstrates proper phlebotomy technique and use of equipment.
• Processes specimens for multiple departments: microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank.
• Stocks and orders routine supplies; maintains cleanliness of storage areas and work areas.
• May assist with sample pickup, inventory, and other tasks; may work night shift/graveyard.
