JPS Health Network's Northeast Health Center in Euless, TX is hiring a part-time Certified Phlebotomist to collect and prepare lab specimens from hospital and clinic patients. The role operates M-F 0800-1200 with hourly compensation.

You will draw blood by venipuncture, ensure proper labeling and transport, and document results in LIS/HIS systems, while upholding patient safety and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Certified Phlebotomist (CPT).
  • 6+ months phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect specimens by venipuncture and micro puncture for patients of all ages.
  • Prepare specimens for transport and ensure proper labeling and documentation.
  • Input and retrieve data in LIS/HIS systems and adhere to HIPAA standards.
  • Provide courteous, professional care and explain procedures to patients.

Job Summary: The Certified Phlebotomist collects and prepares for transport laboratory samples taken from patients seen in the hospital, ambulatory health centers and clinics.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities
  • Collects specimens by venipuncture and micro puncture on neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics, using phlebotomy supplies and techniques appropriate to specific patient population and test specifications, accurately preparing specimens for transport.
  • Performs special collection procedures, such as timed tests, including those requiring oral ingestion of prescribed substances, and accurately preparing specimens for transport.
  • Possesses age-specific knowledge and skills for appropriate interaction with staff members, other Network employees, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Exhibits courteous, respectful, and professional behavior when interacting with patients, families, and staff.
  • Facilitates the collection of specimens by explaining all procedure processes to the patient and/or appropriate family member, care providers, or nursing personnel, and/or other pertinent individuals, prior to initiating the process.
  • Accurately inputs and extracts laboratory information via computer system utilizing the Laboratory and Hospital Information Systems (LIS and HIS) computer functions.
  • Participates in and adheres to Network, Division, and Departmental policies, procedures, Code of Ethics, Compliance, QI/PI, HIPAA, Fire/Safety/Infection Control, Patient Safety, Risk Management activities, established federal, state, and local government and regulatory specifications.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a Certified Phlebotomist (CPT) through one of the following: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or American Medical Technologists (AMT); or National Healthcareer Association.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 6 plus months of experience as a phlebotomist in a clinical setting.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS).
