Encompass Medical Group is currently recruiting for a PRN Certified Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant who will float between our clinics. Under technical supervision performs limited laboratory procedures requiring technical skills and independent judgment in urinalysis, hematology and chemistry. Position Summary:

This position plays a pivotal role in coordinating activities between out-patients, outlying clinics, and laboratory personnel. They are responsible for all aspects of meeting and greeting patients, answering all incoming calls, collecting, preparing, and processing all specimens for lab testing according to lab requisition. Complies with all state and federal regulations and company policy and procedures.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Maintain active phlebotomy certification required from one of the following nationally-recognized organizations: NHA, NAHP, ASCP, ACA, ASPT, NPA, AMT, NCPE, NPS, NCCT.
  • Serves as the main patient greeter and liaison between lab personnel and customers, both internal and external.
  • Receives all incoming calls for the department and, if necessary, refers them to the appropriate laboratory personnel after collecting all pertinent patient data.
  • Collects appropriate specimens for lab testing according to lab protocols and state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Verifies and identifies patient by name and date of birth.
  • Properly labels all specimen containers with correct patient information.
  • Directs and advises patients on techniques for the proper collection of specimens.
  • Prepares and processes both in-house and clinic blood and other body fluids as required prior to transporting to external reference laboratory.
  • Performs data entry of patient information and lab tests.
  • Notifies patients or other clinics of any necessary redraws and notifies provider of any improperly collected samples.
  • Interacts closely with other laboratory personnel to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Understands the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimen received.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of both the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Laboratory Information systems (Labdaq).
  • Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Job Specifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Complete a certifiable Phlebotomy course or other approved training.
  • Maintenance of an active phlebotomy certification required from a nationally recognized organization.
  • Phlebotomy experience required.

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • Lifting up to 40 lbs. may be required.
  • Wearing of protective masks, gloves, and goggles as necessary to prevent injury or contamination.
