**Job Summary:**

Prepares medication for delivery to patients, delivers medications to nursing stations, and restocks automated dispensing cabinets.

**Position Highlights:**

  • Rotating 8-hour shifts Monday - Friday between 6:30 am - 7:00 pm.
  • Every 3rd weekend rotation.
  • Weekend shifts are from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm and 10:30 am - 7:00 pm one Sunday every 6th weekend.
  • The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months. The bonus is only available for full-time positions.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Pre-packages medication into unit dose containers, following appropriate guidelines and labeling procedures.
  • Mixes pharmaceutical preparations.
  • Prepares I.V. admixture formulations using aseptic technique.
  • Assists Pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication.
  • Receives and stores incoming supplies, checks inventories for outdated supplies.
  • Maintains and processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to hospital patients and enters data into the computer.
  • Trains and supervises new technicians in all phases of pharmacy operation.

**Technical Capabilities:**

  • Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy (Novice): Demonstrates a proficient understanding of computers or has completed training for applications supporting medication use processes.
  • Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation, Dispensing & Distribution (Intermediate): Demonstrates proficiency in drug preparation, dispensing, and distribution, including checking accuracy and maintaining sterility.
  • Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Compliance (Intermediate): Knowledge of regulations and application in complex situations; committed to quality improvement and compliance.
  • Training & Development (Fundamental Awareness): Understanding of effective delivery and course support.
  • Drug Inventory & Records Management (Intermediate): Proficiency in inventory management, including cycle counting and lot tracking.
