Job description

Job Title: Certified Pharmacy Technician

The Certified Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services by helping prepare, dispense, record, and transport medications for patients of all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. This role performs duties at a high level of proficiency with minimal supervision, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership of responsibilities. The position also involves learning, performing, and completing assigned tasks during the transitional duty period.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
  • Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR valid ExCPT certification from the National Healthcareer Association.
  • Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must have a clean criminal record, with no felony or drug-related convictions, and no restrictions on pharmacy licensure or registration.
Requirements for Continued Employment:
  • Maintain current certification (PTCB or ExCPT).
  • Maintain licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
Experience:

Required: N/A

Preferred: One year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting; familiarity with standard keyboard use at 20-30 words per minute.

Education/Training:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: N/A

Independent Actions:
  • Perform tasks assigned by the pharmacist that do not require supervision or verification.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and healthcare practitioners.
  • Identify equipment or operational issues and report them appropriately.
Additional Requirements:
  • Availability to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, and emergencies.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Lift 20-50 lbs., prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
  • Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to change.
Other:

Must be available for all shifts, including weekends, holidays, and emergencies.
