Job summary

JPS Health Network is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician PRN for inpatient services at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. The tech will support pharmacists with medication storage, preparation, distribution, and charging in compliance with Texas rules.

Under supervision, duties include IV preparation, round support, data entry, inventory management, and adherence to regulatory requirements. Flexibility for various/rotating shifts is required.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of relevant work experience.
• Current licensure with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
• National certification recognized by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (NHA or PTCB).
• Preferred: High School Diploma or GED.
• Graduate from a pharmacy technology program.
• 4+ years of hospital pharmacy experience.
• National IV Certification (NPTA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists in storing, preparing, distributing, reconciling and charging medications.
• Prepare I.V.s using aseptic technique under pharmacist supervision.
• Transport medications and supplies to nursing areas while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Enter patient and departmental charging information into the system.
• Maintain unit dose readiness and verify barcode scans.
• Replenish stock in ADS, crash carts, and specialty boxes as needed.
• Monitor inventory and minimize waste; notify for reorder as required.
• Perform quality control activities and document logs.

Education

Texas State Board of Pharmacy licensure

National certification (NHA or PTCB)

High School Diploma or GED

Pharmacy technology program graduate

Hospital pharmacy experience 4+ years

National IV Certification (NPTA) preferred

Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Certified Pharmacy Tech PRN assist the pharmacist(s) in storing, preparing, distributing, reconciling, and charging of all medications to the appropriate nursing areas serviced by the pharmacy. The Technician works under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and will only perform activities that are in compliance with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

1. Accurately and efficiently prepares and labels medications. Always obtains a final check from the pharmacist before dispensing/delivering a medication or releasing any compounded parenteral medication.
2. Accurately prepares I.V.'s, utilizing aseptic technique, under the supervision of a pharmacist, in accordance with USP <797> Guidelines and Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
3. Makes timely rounds and accurately and safely transports medications and other pharmacy supplies to assigned areas. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
4. Enters patient and departmental charging information into the computer system.
5. Assists in maintaining unit dose readiness of bulk products. Verifies all barcodes scan accurately.
6. Replenishes stock in the automated dispensing system, crash cart trays, and specialty medication boxes accurately and timely.
7. Monitors and ensures adequate inventory is maintained in all areas. Notifies the inventory control technicians of products that need to be reordered. Manages drug supplies in a cost-effective manner and identifies opportunities to minimize waste.
8. Performs and documents quality control activities, including monthly medication storage area inspections, and completes information on all required log sheets.
9. Performs daily ADS routines (outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading/unloading, etc.) and troubleshoots all ADS issues (cubie/drawer failures, temperatures out of range, interface issues, etc.)
10. Ensures medication management processes meets all legal and regulatory requirements.

• Graduate from a pharmacy technology program.
• 4 plus years of pharmacy experience in a hospital setting.
• National I.V. Certification accredited by the National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA).
