Job summary

Arizona Spine and Joint Hospital is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our team on a PRN basis. You will assist pharmacists, stock medications, manage unit-dose packaging, and support discharge processing in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role emphasizes accuracy, strong communication, and adherence to pharmacy policies. Required: Pharmacy Technician License, current BLS/CPR, and hospital experience.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician License is required.
• Current BLS/CPR certification is required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Hospital experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Makes rounds and delivers labeled medications, controlled substances and pharmaceutical supplies
• Monitors the Controlled Substances Administration Log in patient care areas
• Monitors drug supply and maintains inventory
• Labels compounded and re-packaged medications
• Performs pharmaceutical calculations
• Answers telephone and provides information or refers questions to appropriate personnel
• Interprets physicians’ orders and enters into the computer system
• Generates labels and fills drug orders according to physicians’ orders
• Refills medication carts and exchanges medication cubicles as per schedule
• Packages bulk medications into unit dose and documents the process
• Fills drug replacement orders and maintains par levels
• Returns drug credits to pharmacy stock
• Assists with processing discharges and issuing credits on returned drugs
• Stocks shelves and notes drugs expiring or needing order
• Maintains and enforces pharmacy policies as directed
• Keeps work areas clean and organized
• Gains proficiency with the pharmacy computer system
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Under the supervision of the Pharmacist in Charge and staff pharmacist, performs duties which include but are not limited to:

• Makes rounds and delivers labeled medications, controlled substances and pharmaceutical supplies
• Monitors the accurate documentation on the Controlled Substances Administration Log in patient care areas
• Monitors drug supply and maintains inventory
• Labeling of compounded and re-packaged medications
• Pharmaceutical calculations
• Answers telephone and provides information as requested or refers questions to appropriate personnel
• Interprets physicians’ orders and enters into the computer system
• Generates labels and fills drug orders according to physicians’ orders
• Refills medication carts with accuracy and exchanges medication cubicles as per schedule
• Responsible for unit-dose packaging the bulk medications into unit of use, and accurate documentation of the function
• Fills drug replacement orders to various departments accurately and maintains par levels
• Returns drug credits to pharmacy stock
• Assists in processing discharges and issuing credits, if necessary, on all returned drugs
• Stocks shelves and notes any drugs that will be expiring or in need of ordering
• Assists with the initiation, development, maintenance, and execution of rules and regulations pertaining to the professional policies set by the Pharmacy Department
• Assists in keeping all work areas clean, neat, and orderly
• Attains/maintains knowledge of the pharmacy computer system from the standpoint of a user of the system
• Performs other related duties as assigned
