Reports to Title: Pharmacy Supervisor, Manager, or Director

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position: Under general supervision, assist the pharmacist in processing medication orders by selecting, assembling, and preparing medications for inpatient and outpatient services. Responsibilities include medication preparation, data entry, inventory management, drug compounding, and patient interaction, in accordance with state laws and regulations.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assist in preparing medications for inpatient and outpatient services, including accepting prescriptions and verifying orders.
  2. Enter and retrieve information from electronic health records and prescription systems, ensuring billing accuracy.
  3. Prepare labels, stock medications, count and pour drugs, and perform non-sterile drug compounding following USP guidelines.
  4. Stock automated dispensing cabinets, transport medications, and operate drug dispensing technology.
  5. Accept verbal refill authorizations and transfer prescriptions as permitted by law.
  6. Assist in training new technicians and participate in quality improvement activities.
  7. In outpatient settings, package medications, assist with insurance processing, and perform laboratory testing as needed.
  8. In inpatient/home infusion settings, perform sterile compounding and infection control procedures.
  9. Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to regulatory standards.

Licensing/Certification: ExCPT or PTCB certification and registration with State Board of Pharmacy (required)

Education: High School Diploma or GED (required); completion of approved pharmacy technician training preferred.

Work Experience: Experience in retail, outpatient, hospital, or home infusion pharmacy preferred.

Skills: EMR, medication stocking, prescription processing, compounding, insurance claims, attention to detail, customer service, problem-solving, communication skills, and familiarity with robotic dispensing systems.
