Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision and direction of a pharmacist in providing pharmacy services, inventory management and completing pharmacy duties in accordance with state or federal Pharmacy laws. The incumbent will provide professional, courteous, and efficient customer service to Pharmacy customers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.

  1. Performs limited pharmacy services and duties associated with the stocking, preparation, labeling, dispensing and delivery of medications, including sterile admixtures and prepackaged or unit dose drugs under the close supervision of a pharmacist.
  2. Assists in filling, preparing and delivery of medications.
  3. Packages and labels medications appropriately.
  4. Compounds or admixtures ingredients appropriately under the supervision of the pharmacist.
  5. Compounds extemporaneous medications for dispensing, cart fill and sterile preparation.
  6. Determines the appropriate formula for a drug to be compounded, and weighs and accurately measures needed amounts.
  7. Prepares IV admixtures using aseptic techniques and in compliance with accepted regulatory standards.
  8. Performs designated tasks regarding pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of orders for drugs.
  9. Assists in maintaining pharmacy drug stock by regularly checking for products that are outdated and/or low in inventory level.
  10. Assists with the essential functions related to drug purchasing and inventory control in an appropriate manner (e.g., ordering/receiving of medications and supplies).
  11. Labels and stocks shelves.
  12. Stores IVs and supplies appropriately.
  13. Monitors/checks appropriate storage of drugs.
  14. Maintains automated dispensing inventories.
  15. Communicates immediately with all appropriate staff members when inventory levels are low.
  16. Processes orders for stock medication from units or clinic areas to ensure good pharmacy service is provided.
  17. Helps patients and medical staff with non‑judgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  18. Supports pharmacist staff as requested, creates and maintains medication records.
  19. Responsible for charges and credits of medications.
  20. Answers phone and directs calls appropriately.
  21. Maintains a clean pharmacy, assists in maintenance of Quality Assurance indicators.
  22. Resolves discrepancies, troubleshoots, and runs reports from the automated dispensing machine (ADM).
  23. May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
