Qualifications

  • Register as Technician in Training if not registered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications according to physician orders.
  • Maintain equipment and inventory in the IV Room.
  • Perform receptionist duties at the RX window.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy and other pharmacy leadership, a Technician I assists in preparing and distributing medications. As a representative of The Christ Hospital Health Network and Department of Pharmacy Services, the technician promotes a positive image in all interactions with hospital staff and guests.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, prepares medications according to physician orders. Activities include:

  1. Unit Dose: Filling, packaging, labeling, and scanning medications; weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients; operating automated dispensing machines; maintaining CII safe inventory.
  2. IV Room: Preparing and labeling sterile products using aseptic technique; filling syringes; reconstituting injectable pharmaceuticals; maintaining equipment such as laminar flow hoods.
  3. Outpatient RX Area (if trained): Selecting prescription items, ringing up sales, and completing Ohio State Board requirements.

Uses department technology including Epic for patient info lookup, RX messaging, compounding, and label printing. Also responsible for medication delivery, answering phones, reordering supplies, rotating stock, and maintaining a clean, safe environment.

Performs receptionist duties at the RX window, distributes medications, completes paperwork, and assists with departmental tasks as directed.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills: Handles cash for prescriptions and pharmacy items.

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Pharmacy technician experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications: Must pass an exam approved by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy (PTCB/CPhT), register as Technician in Training if not registered, and maintain active certification.
