Responsibilities
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Perform non-judgmental technical duties under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Operational Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists with medication histories.
- Train Tech I associates.
- Prepare drug orders per physician requests following policies and protocols.
- Verify and maintain accurate computerized patient medication records.
- Compound pharmaceuticals, including sterile, non-sterile, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products.
- Issue controlled substances and maintain legal and institutional records.
- Provide services efficiently and timely.
- Verify department activities are complete and recorded.
- Maintain competency and current technician license, including CE records and licensure.
- Attend staff meetings and maintain IV certification and competencies.
- Complete all competency assessments.
- Serve in specialty areas such as operating room, IV room, or pharmacy work areas outside the central pharmacy.
- Provide ambulatory care services like anticoagulation clinics, transition of care, and discharge medication reconciliation.
- Perform outpatient distributive functions including entering prescriptions, selecting medications, and coordinating delivery or pickup.
Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure safe, appropriate, cost-effective drug therapies.
- Interpret patient medical records accurately.
- Report adverse drug reactions promptly.
- Maintain hospital drug formulary, promote rational drug therapy, and utilize therapeutic substitution protocols.
- Provide drug information to pharmacy staff.
- Coordinate pharmacist-led drug education for patients and families.
- Participate in quality improvement and medication review activities, including data collection and documentation.
- Conduct clinical interventions such as IV to PO conversions, renal dosing, and anticoagulation management.
- Report interventions for clinical productivity as per departmental goals.
- Provide services efficiently and in a timely manner.
Occupational Hazards
- Potential exposure to hazardous substances, sharps, biologic material, and risk of musculoskeletal injuries.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of pharmacy technician experience preferred.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of practice required.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred.
- Complete ACPE-accredited IV certification, including hazardous drugs (minimum 40 hours), or meet state requirements. Not applicable in ambulatory or retail settings.
