Job summary

State of Tennessee Health Department in Nashville, TN is seeking a Pharmacy Technician under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. You will assist with dispensing or pre-packing drugs, create and maintain patient profiles, add new patients' orders and discontinue orders as appropriate, and support unit dose cart preparation.

The position requires Pharmacy Technician Certification and registration, with ongoing education to maintain credentials and potential CPR/comprehensive crisis

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician Certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
• Registration as a pharmacy technician with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy upon employment.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
• The Pharmacy Technician Certification and registration must be maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Fills medication orders under supervision by selecting medications, labeling, and placing into containers.
• Processes medication orders by entering information and adjusting quantities; checks for drug-related issues.
• Communicates with pharmacists, medical staff, and vendors about drug interactions and order problems.
• Reconciles invoices and processes requisitions; maintains patient medications until discharge.
• Delivers medications to and from the pharmacy and nursing stations.
• Monitors high-risk meds, refrigerators, and inventory levels.
• Reconciles shipments with invoices and ensures correct items received.
• Completes continuing education to maintain certification.
