Certified Pharmacy Technician – Walgreens
Base pay range
$18.00/hr - $21.50/hr
This role will remain open until filled.
Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and perform pharmacy department duties according to company policies.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, coach and support other pharmacy technicians in the use of pharmacy systems and cash registers.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including greeting customers, answering questions, resolving issues, and offering assistance with products and services.
Customer Experience
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
- Share customer service best practices with teammates to deliver a distinctive, delightful experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
- Develop strong relationships with customers.
Operations
- Review and comply with the Walgreens Pharmacy Code of Conduct; assist under pharmacist supervision.
- Enter patient and drug information accurately, retrieve, count, and dispense medications, and verify correct medicine including possible interactions.
- Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow; report prescription errors immediately and adhere to the quality improvement program.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy and other applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register sales on assigned cash register, handle cash, and assist customers in the OTC aisle when possible.
- Handle non‑pharmacist requiring telephone calls, including those to physicians.
- Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services timely, and perform clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist in inventory management: ordering, unpacking, checking and storing pharmaceutical shipments; file claims for shortages, overages, and damages.
- Assist in clinical services as required (collecting and labeling samples, coordinating clinic services, etc.).
- Assist in developing relationships with the local medical community and coordinating outreach.
- Maintain a clean, stocked pharmacy department; comply with company policies and maintain respectful coworker relationships.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated program; certification required for promotion to senior technician.
- Attend required training, complete continuing education credits, and keep up‑to‑date on healthcare and pharmacy developments.
Basic Qualifications
- Fluent reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Strong math skills for accurate prescription handling.
- Good computer skills.
- Knowledge of store inventory control.
- PTCB certification.
