Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Pharmacy Technician to support our pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, managing inventory, and providing excellent customer service. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe and efficient pharmacy operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prescription Processing
- Receive and process new and refill prescriptions.
- Verify prescription details and update patient profiles.
- Prepare medications by measuring, counting, labeling, and packaging.
- Ensure accuracy and readiness for pharmacist review.
- Customer Service
- Greet patients and answer phone calls professionally.
- Assist patients with prescription pickups and refer medication questions to the pharmacist.
- Ensure patients receive counseling for new prescriptions.
- Inventory Management
- Order, receive, and store medications and supplies.
- Check expiration dates and remove outdated items.
- Maintain inventory records and assist with audits.
- Pharmacy Operations
- File prescriptions and maintain documentation.
- Help train new staff and follow safety and sanitation procedures.
- Operate pharmacy software for billing, reporting, and inventory tracking.
- Team Communication
- Report issues to supervisors and suggest improvements.
- Maintain a positive and respectful attitude with patients and coworkers.
Qualifications
Education & Certification (Required):
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certified Pharmacy Technician with up-to-date continuing education
- Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
- Skills & Experience (Required):
- Bilingual: Fluent in English and Spanish
- Strong ethical standards and professionalism
- Organized, self-motivated, and a team player
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and interpret both simple and complex documents
- Skilled in handling sensitive inquiries and complaints
- Advocate for quality healthcare and patient service
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects
- Proficient in basic math
- Able to operate standard office and pharmacy equipment (computer, copier, fax, calculator, cash register)
- Must be able to stand for extended periods (up to 100% of the day)
- Occasional lifting/moving of up to 30 pounds
- Frequent use of hands for handling medications and equipment
- Ability to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and perform other physical tasks
- Requires good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus)
- Indoor work environment with moderate noise levels
- Not exposed to outdoor weather conditions
