A leading healthcare organization in Georgia is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to support its pharmacy department, to prepare, compound, and dispense medications while performing other technical duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. The position requires competency demonstrated through supervised observation and annual assessments. Proficiency in all responsibilities and duties of a certified pharmacy technician is essential.
This role plays a crucial role in maintaining quality care ensuring medications are prepared and delivered safely, contributing to better health.
What Your Day Looks Like:
Prior Authorization (PA) Management
- Complete prior authorization requests from initiation through appeal.
- Communicate with providers to obtain necessary signatures and preferences for PA completion.
- Collaborate with PSC pharmacists and other PSC staff to ensure smooth processing of PA requests.
- Coordinate with pharmacies regarding individual patient PA requests.
- Provide timely patient communication, including status updates and approval notifications.
- Ensure accurate documentation to maintain compliance with PA-related tasks.
- Support metric assessments related to prior authorization processes.
Medication Distribution
- Prepare medications and/or IV solutions for dispensing, ensuring selection of the correct medication, strength, and form. Fill, label, and initial medication bags for pharmacist verification.
- Accurately fill multiple patient-specific medications following departmental procedures.
- Securely deliver bulk fill, first-dose, and missing-dose medications to appropriate units, maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Properly generate labels, fill medications, obtain pharmacist verification, and dispense to the appropriate floor or unit.
- Accurately prepare, measure, and count medications, including compounded ointments, creams, oral solutions, oral solids, IV solutions, and more.
Automatic Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) Management
- Add new users to the ADC system accurately.
- Load ADC with verified medications and adjust par levels as needed.
- Generate reports for tracking and identifying discrepancies.
- Troubleshoot minor ADC-related issues.
- Replenish medications, fluids, and stockouts as required.
- Assist pharmacists and inventory specialists in retrieving recalled medications.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures, and applicable laws regarding controlled substance medications.
IV Admixture
- Demonstrate proper aseptic technique, including hand hygiene and IV room attire compliance. Follow Joint Commission, hospital, and departmental policies. Complete aseptic technique competency per USP standards.
- Prepare small and large volume admixtures, specialty solutions (e.g., epidurals, intrathecal injections, chemotherapy), and neonatal syringes as applicable.
- Maintain a cleanroom environment per hospital and departmental policies.
- Adhere to all safety standards for compounding medications, ensuring compliance with United States Pharmacopeia regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure proper labeling of all repackaged medications following Georgia Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Provide professional customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
- Manage supply orders, purchase requisitions, and inventory for controlled substances.
- Restock and inspect code carts and kits in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Conduct monthly unit and pharmacy inspections, including monitoring temperature and humidity levels.
- Perform routine checks for expired medications and ensure compliance with controlled substance regulations.
- Train and mentor pharmacy technicians under the guidance of the lead pharmacy technician.
- Participate in continuing education initiatives that support PSC goals.
- Maintain consistent processes that can be easily followed by all providers.

What You Bring:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician & Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or Pharmacist-Intern.
- Active and in good standing with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy (required upon hire).
- Experience in hospital pharmacy operations.
- General knowledge of automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management, medication order interpretation, and Georgia pharmacy laws.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Strong oral communication and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build strong relationships with patients, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accuracy in medication preparation and record-keeping.
- Effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to remain professional and composed under pressure.
- Basic management skills, including the ability to provide guidance and support to fellow pharmacy technicians.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
- Ability to push a transportation cart of approximately 100 pounds.
