Kindred Hospital Bay Area – St. Petersburg and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is a 95‑bed hospital offering the same in‑depth care you would receive in a traditional hospital, but for an extended recovery period. With 82 long‑term acute care beds, the facility partners with physicians to provide 24‑hour clinical care seven days a week, enabling patients to start their journey to wellness. The 13‑bed ARU is designed for individuals who have experienced the debilitating effects of an acute injury, impairment, or illness. Located south of downtown St. Petersburg, the unit enjoys unobstructed waterfront views of the bay and easy access to public transit.

Job Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or a Registered Pharmacist and following standard procedures, dispenses additives for intravenous and irrigating solutions, mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic techniques with a laminar air flow hood, types labels, prepares and files charge slips, and performs other related duties. The role reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy.

Essential Functions
  • Assists the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication.
  • Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels for bottles.
  • Fills orders with correct medications and prepares unit‑of‑use doses when possible.
  • Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients, computes charges, and enters data into the computer system.
  • Prepares intravenous (IV) packs.
  • Generates required reports, including IV production reports, and performs backup procedures correctly.
  • Recycles product as appropriate and changes prep and expiration dates on recycled products.
  • Dates, times, and initials all vials for reuse.
  • Prioritizes work (e.g., stats made first), delivers IVs to proper locations, restocks shelves, rotates stock, properly disposes of non‑recyclable solutions, and maintains IV refrigerator temperature log.
  • Receives and stores incoming supplies.
  • Counts stock and enters data into the computer to maintain inventory records.
  • Returns medications to stock, rotates stock, and fills requisitions from nursing floors in a timely fashion. Can calculate appropriate medication doses for patients of all ages, including adults and geriatrics.
  • Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
  • Performs sterile compounding of IV medications using aseptic technique according to 797 guidelines.
  • Restocks automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Participates in the tech‑check‑tech process during medication restocks.

  • Basic understanding of the role of and use of computers in the processing of prescription orders with minimum work processing skills.
  • Proven experience with maintaining positive relationships with co‑workers and customers.
