Job summary

Oro-Valley-Hospital in Arizona is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to ensure safe preparation, dispensing, and management of medications within the hospital setting. You will maintain accurate records, deliver exceptional patient service, and collaborate with pharmacists to optimize care.

The role requires 0-2 years of hospital pharmacy experience (2+ preferred) and possesses licensure/certifications such as LPT or PHAR-C along with BCLS.

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or healthcare setting required
  • At least 2 years recent Pharmacy experience highly preferred
  • LPT - Licensed Pharmacy Tech in state of employment required or PHAR-C - Certified Pharmacy Tech required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required

Responsibilities

  • Collect and maintain patient medication history
  • Obtain accurate home medication lists from patients
  • Enter or update medication lists in the electronic medical record
  • Assist with medication reconciliation discrepancies on admission
  • Communicate with patients, families, pharmacies, and PCPs/specialists to gather medication history
  • Maintain Medication Reconciliation structure and task list for efficiency and accuracy
  • Assist pharmacists in preparation, labeling, and dispensing of medications
  • Prepare sterile and non-sterile compounded medications using aseptic techniques
  • Conduct inventory management and regular audits to prevent shortages or overstock
  • Maintain records of dispensing, inventory transactions, and controlled substances
  • Participate in quality assurance activities to ensure patient safety and proper operations
  • Operate and maintain pharmacy equipment (e.g., automated dispensing systems)
  • Support pharmacists in medication reviews and clinical activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician ensures the safe and efficient preparation, dispensing, and management of medications within the hospital or healthcare facility. The Pharmacy Technician II is also responsible for maintaining accurate records, providing exceptional customer service to patients and staff, and collaborating with pharmacists to optimize patient care.

Qualifications

Essential Functions
  • The primary role in this position as Certified Pharmacy Technician is collecting and maintaining patient medication history.
  • Working directly with patients, obtaining accurate home medication lists.
  • Accurately enters or updates medication lists in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation discrepancies on admission.
  • Thoroughly takes a complete medication history by communicating appropriately with the patient, family, pharmacies, and PCPs/specialists.
  • Develops and maintains the Medication Reconciliation structure and task list to assure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assists pharmacists in the preparation, compounding, labeling, and dispensing of medications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares sterile and non-sterile compounded medications using aseptic techniques, adhering to USP guidelines.
  • Conducts inventory management activities, including monitoring medication stock levels, ordering supplies, and performing regular inventory audits to prevent shortages or overstock.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of medication dispensing, inventory transactions, and controlled substances in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Participates in quality assurance initiatives, including medication storage checks, compliance reviews, and other activities to ensure patient safety and proper pharmacy operations.
  • Operates and maintains pharmacy equipment, such as automated dispensing systems, ensuring functionality and troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Supports pharmacists in conducting medication reviews, medication history reconciliation, and other clinical activities as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
