POSITION SUMMARY:

As a BMC Outpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will prepare and dispense medications, operate pharmacy automation systems, maintain inventory, perform quality audits, provide customer service, and keep pharmacy records. You will assist in training staff under the supervision of Pharmacy Managers and the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, supporting BMC's mission of exceptional care for all.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasks
  • Perform data entry tasks such as prescription transcription, insurance claim resolution, and communication with providers, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Prepare prescription orders promptly; retrieve, count, measure, and prepare medications and compounds as directed, with pharmacist oversight.
  • Support pharmacist services to ensure correct dispensing and positive patient outcomes.

Patient Care and Safety
  • Report equipment malfunctions and unsafe conditions to pharmacists or supervisors.

Administrative
  • Participate in hospital and management training workshops.
  • Maintain national technician certification through PTCB or exCPT.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the MA Board of Pharmacy by hire date (Interns exempt from CPhT certification).
  • National certification from PTCB or exCPT required within 6 months of start date.
  • Pharmacy students with two years of college coursework may qualify for internships, potentially waiving experience requirements.
  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant work experience preferred.
