Job summary

Memorial Health University Medical Center is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Tech to support pharmacy operations in Savannah, GA. The role involves assisting pharmacists with orders, labeling, and medication delivery under supervision, and maintaining Pyxis inventory.

You will help fill Pyxis with medications and IV fluids, ensure accuracy, and manage stock while prioritizing STAT and NOW orders. A Pharmacy Technician license and BLS are required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists with processing physician orders and maintenance of the Pyxis system under pharmacist supervision.
• Prepare and label medications accurately and deliver after pharmacist check.
• Fill Pyxis machines with medications and IV fluids; return unused/expired meds as appropriate.
• Return medications to stock and manage bulk products, unit doses, and IV admixtures.
• Maintain proper levels of medications and supplies; check for outdated drugs.
• Assist with safe distribution of controlled substances and prioritization of STAT/NOW orders.
• Troubleshoot minor Pyxis equipment failures and support pharmacy operations.
• Support team to minimize medication errors by following policy and review steps.

Job Summary and Qualifications

• Assists pharmacists in processing physician's orders and maintenance of the automated drug delivery system (Pyxis). All drug dispensing activities are under the direct supervision and final-check of a pharmacist.
• Assists pharmacists with the preparation and proper labeling of medication, and delivery of medications after being checked by pharmacist for filling accuracy
• Responsible for filling Pyxis machines with appropriate medications and IV fluids. Also responsible for returning unused and expired medications when appropriate.
• Credit medications returned to the pharmacy when appropriate and returning unused medications to stock.
• Assists in the preparation and packaging of bulk products, unit dose items, and parenteral intravenous admixtures.
• Assists in maintaining proper levels of medications and supplies. Check assigned areas for outdated drugs.
• Assists in the safe, secure, accurate, and timely distribution of controlled substances.
• Answers telephone, screens calls, and responds to persons at the window.
• Assists in prioritization of pharmacy workload through identification of STAT, NOW and all other medication orders.
• Assists with minor equipment failures associated with Pyxis system.
• Performs other related responsibilities as required.
• Works to minimize errors in the medication process including loading correct medications in Pyxis, ensuring pharmacist has checked all medications before dispensing by utilizing S.T.A.R. (Stop, Think, Act and Review) especially when dealing with a situation that is out of policy, procedure, or plan, or any other high‑risk situation.
