Job Description

Position Title: Certified Personal Trainer

The City of Peoria seeks to hire a Certified Personal Trainer in the Parks and Recreations Department to develop and conduct health, fitness and strength training programs for participants ranging from teens to advanced age groups. In addition, the Personal Trainer position monitors the fitness center during scheduled hours to ensure patron safety and education.


Pay Rate: $25.77

The ideal candidate for this position will have:



  • Experience scheduling and conducting appointments with prospective clients, including reviewing health histories for orthopedic or medical considerations affecting training.

  • The ability to establish client goals and design safe, effective, and personalized exercise programs, including providing written workout plans and consistent follow-up.

  • Commitment to client safety and promoting a positive environment for all recreation center users.

  • Willingness to promote recreation center programs and lead at least one to two educational workshops or lectures annually.

  • Availability to work a minimum of one weekly floor monitor shift (3-4 hours) for one year.

  • Ongoing engagement with current trends in fitness and wellness through professional reading and participation in industry organizations.

  • Active maintenance of relevant industry certifications.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Flexibility to perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Education:



  • No minimum education requirement


Experience:



  • Verifiable experience working in the fitness industry required.


Physical Demands:



  • Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.


Licenses and Certifications:



  • CPR and First Aid Certification

  • CCC/AED certification is required within two months of hire

  • Current industry recognized Personal Trainer Certification (ACE - ACSM, NSCA)


Preferred/Desirable Qualifications:



  • National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certification

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Academic education (AA, BS, MS)
