Certified Peer Support Specialist- Waukesha Court Services

Job Responsibilities
Position Summary:

The Certified Peer Support Specialist will provide 1:1 peer support to individuals in need of peer support services in Waukesha County. Peer services include connecting peers with community resources, helping them navigate these resources, and providing strength-based support and encouragement. The focus will be on reducing stigma and promoting the benefits of peer support through educational presentations to community businesses and partners.

Essential Functions:
  • Promote and recruit for peer services and conduct outreach to peers within Waukesha County, especially those without current access to support.
  • Provide 1:1 peer support services to residents of Waukesha County.
  • Assist individuals in exploring goals and priorities using Needs Assessments to support their recovery journey.
  • Offer a strength-based review of individuals' abilities, strengths, and assets from a recovery perspective.
  • Encourage individuals to become experts of their lived experiences, fostering voice and choice in their recovery.
  • Support navigation of systems of care and promote communication with other service providers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, case files, and complete all reporting as per agency and legal requirements.
  • Work with collateral contacts and community partners to ensure continuity of care with client consent.
  • Assist participants in stabilization and recovery processes.
  • Conduct outreach and educational presentations to local businesses about peer support services.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training, and conferences as required.
Other Duties:
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Maintain Peer Support State Certification, knowledge of Wisconsin Criminal Justice System, local treatment programs, and community resources, including housing, education, and transportation. Knowledge of CCAP, strong communication skills, crisis response ability, cultural sensitivity, organizational skills, and adherence to Evidence-Based Principles are required.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED/HSED; graduate of state Certified Peer Specialist training.
  • Current Certified Peer Specialist certification.
  • Experience with mental health and substance use recovery principles.
  • Clear criminal and caregiver background checks, valid driver’s license, and vehicle preferred.
Additional Information

Work involves community engagement, including home visits and community-based locations. Work hours are generally 40 per week, with flexibility for evenings and weekends.
