Job summary

Harborview Medical Center, part of UW Medicine, seeks a Certified Peer Support Specialist for MAT to support recovery and connect patients with community resources. The role involves collaboration with inpatient and outpatient teams, discharge planning coordination, and patient education on medications.

The position is full-time, day shift, 40 hours per week, with a competitive hourly pay range and benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent with 2+ years in behavioral health; or equivalent education/experience.
  • AND Peer Counselor Certification (DBBH) OR CHW Certification (DOH).
  • Must apply for Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration/License with WA DOH within 7 days and obtain within 60 days.

Responsibilities

  • Model resiliency and recovery for consumers with serious mental illness.
  • Build supportive relationships to promote hope, wellness and recovery.
  • Assist consumers in linking to community-based services and supports.
  • Explain psychiatric meds effects and assist with filling prescriptions after discharge.
  • Collaborate with inpatient and outpatient programs as part of the treatment team.
  • Coordinate with inpatient units to facilitate discharge planning.
  • Teach independent living skills and document contacts in EMR.

Certified Peer Support Specialist, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).

WORK SCHEDULE
  • 40 hours per week

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as a role model demonstrating resiliency in overcoming obstacles and managing their own recovery common to those with serious mental illness
  • Build positive supportive relationships with consumers that helps promote hope, choice, wellness and recovery
  • Assist consumers with identifying and linking to community-based services and supports
  • Assist consumers to understand the effects of psychiatric medications, and with filling prescriptions after discharge
  • Work in conjunction with all inpatient and outpatient programs as part of the consumer’s treatment team
  • Coordinate with inpatient treatment units to facilitate discharge planning
  • Assist consumers in their recovery by teaching independent living skills and chart consumer contact in the electronic medical record as needed
Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent and two years’ experience in a behavioral health organization or consumer/peer run organization; or equivalent education/experience.
  • AND Peer Counselor Certification (Department of Behavioral Health and Recovery) OR Community Health Worker Certification (Department of Health)
  • AND Within 7 days of employment and depending on job requirements: must apply for Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration/License with the State of WA (Dept of Health), and have obtained this credential within 60 days of hire (RCW18.19.210).
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
