Job Purpose:The Certified Peer Support Specialist at Behavioral Health Services Inc. is dedicated to providing empathetic and effective support to individuals navigating mental health and substance use challenges. This role focuses on leveraging personal experience and knowledge to foster a supportive environment that encourages recovery, resilience, and personal growth.Key Responsibilities:Offer one-on-one peer support to clients, sharing personal experiences to inspire hope and motivation.Collaborate with clinical teams to develop and implement individualized recovery plans.Facilitate group sessions that promote mutual support and shared experiences among clients.Assist clients in identifying and accessing community resources and services to aid in their recovery journey.Advocate for clients' needs and rights within the organization and the broader community.Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress.Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in peer support and behavioral health.Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all clients.Required Education:High school diploma or equivalent; certification in peer support or related field is preferred.Required Experience:Minimum of 1 year of experience in a mental health or substance use recovery setting.Personal experience with mental health or substance use challenges and demonstrated recovery.Experience working in a team-oriented environment, preferably within behavioral health services.Required Skills and Abilities:Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with clients and team members.Ability to provide empathetic support and establish trust with individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges.Proficiency in documenting client interactions and maintaining accurate records.Knowledge of community resources and services available for mental health and substance use recovery.Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively.Basic computer skills, including the use of email and electronic health records systems.
